The Soul of Villa Mabel: A Legacy of Hospitality

Our story is a labor of love

Our story is a labor of love, shaped by passion, dedication, and a true Sicilian spirit. We invite you to become part of it. Our vision goes beyond offering a luxury stay — we want Villa Mabel to feel like a relaxed and beautiful home away from home, where every guest is welcomed as a friend.

The heart of our home

People often ask us what first drew us to Villa Mabel, nestled here in the heart of this ancient, dazzling town. The answer was never simply the postcard view—not the sparkling Ionian Sea, nor the colossal majesty of Etna alone. It was the moment we truly discovered Miss Mabel Hill’s legacy: realizing that this 19th-century landmark was built not just for fin-de-siècle elegance, but as a vibrant social hub, a meeting place for artists and intellectuals. It was a home designed for connection. We knew then that our purpose was not just to renovate, but to revive this profound spirit of hospitality.

Your stay here is an invitation to follow the footsteps of that rich history. You’ll encounter the genuine Sicilian warmth of our people—La Famiglia—who are friends first, dedicated to making you feel immediately at home.
We haven’t created a conventional luxury hotel; we have created a refined haven that respects its past while celebrating the energy of modern Taormina. You are not just booking a room; you are stepping into a continued story—a legacy of art, passion, and commitment—and we eagerly await the chance to share that story with you.

The legacy of
Miss Mabel Hill

Our historic building, a landmark dating back to the late 19th century, was once the beloved private residence of Miss Mabel Hill. This English philanthropist was renowned for her significant contributions to Taormina’s burgeoning art and social scene, transforming Villa Mabel into a vibrant hub—a true meeting place for artists and intellectuals of the fin-de-siècle.

Crucially, Miss Mabel dedicated herself to preserving local Sicilian craftsmanship by establishing a renowned lacemaking school. This initiative not only empowered local women with valuable skills and income but passionately promoted the exquisite traditional lacework known in Sicilian as “travagghi ‘nglisi,” with artifacts exported worldwide.

During the extensive renovation of Villa Mabel, our absolute priority was to meticulously restore, rather than rebuild, ensuring the villa retains its authentic charm and aristocratic soul. This careful approach means you might simply walk past, still imagining it to be a private, elegant residence—a subtle haven of Authentic Sicilian Sophistication

La nostra Famiglia:
a shared conversation

We believe true hospitality begins with genuine connection.

We do not have ‘staff’ in the traditional sense; we have La Famiglia. Our employees are friends first, then dedicated colleagues, and their presence is the very heartbeat of Villa Mabel.

This hospitality is not a learned skill; it is intuitive. We choose our team not just for their expertise, but for their genuine smiles, their innate kindness, and their commitment to Sicilian warmth. We knew we loved having you here before you even walked through the door.

From Vincenzo and Rosanna, Carmelo, Abdu, Mimma, Michele, Marisa and every hand that makes this villa run—our service is a shared conversation. It is our dedication to look after you as our own cherished guest, ensuring you feel the history, the passion, and the structure that defines our world.

This commitment—this spirit of friendship and dedication—is the true soul of Villa Mabel.
